Our Health Department is searching for a Weights & Measures Specialist to join the team. The Weights and Measures Specialist promotes consumer protection and fair-trade practices by assisting the Operations Supervisor - Health with the administration and operation of the Weights and Measures (W&M) inspection programs in Appleton and the East Central W&M consortium contracted municipalities. This position supports the development of timely inspection programs to ensure compliance with State Weights and Measures Law. The work involves conducting inspections, tests, and enforcement actions on weighing and measuring equipment, price-scanning systems, and bulk and prepackaged consumer products to ensure accuracy, proper labeling, and fair-trade practices. The incumbent works under the general direction of the Operations Supervisor – Health.

Qualifications 

This position requires a high school diploma and two years of related experience involving technical, mechanical, inspection, regulatory, maintenance, or similar work; or a combination of applicable experience and training. Prior experience in weights and measures is not required. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical aptitude, mechanical ability, attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and an ability to learn and apply technical procedures and regulations. The selected candidate must be willing to complete required training and fulfill State Bureau of Weights and Measures requirements. We are willing to train the right candidate.

Salary

The hiring salary range for this position is $21.88 - $26.26 hourly, with the ability to earn up to $30.63 hourly, plus an excellent fringe benefit package including paid time off, health, life, dental, and Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS). The WRS is among the best funded and best managed public pension systems in the country. Employees, spouses, and dependents over the age of 12 months who are covered on the City’s medical plan are eligible to use the Connecting Care Clinic (CCC). The CCC provides primary and acute care services and physical therapy at no cost to the patient.
