The City is accepting applications for a full-time Deputy Director/City Engineer. This is a management, professional, and administrative position responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational oversight of the Engineering, Traffic, and Parking functions of the Department of Public Works. This position provides direction and support to division managers, leads departmental planning and capital improvement initiatives, oversees operating and capital budgets, and provides professional engineering and operational guidance to ensure effective delivery of public infrastructure, transportation, parking, and related services. The position also works closely with City leadership, elected officials, other City departments, regulatory agencies, consultants, contractors, developers, and community stakeholders on capital projects, policies, development proposals, and service improvements. The incumbent works under the general direction of the Director of Public Works.


Qualifications

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field, Wisconsin Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration, and a minimum of eight years of progressively responsible professional experience in civil or municipal engineering, public works, project management, or a related field, including significant supervisory, administrative, or leadership experience, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.


The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of municipal engineering, public infrastructure, transportation, and public rights-of-way, and the ability to lead professional and technical staff, develop strategic and capital improvement plans, manage budgets, oversee complex projects, evaluate engineering plans and proposals, and build effective partnerships with City officials, employees, contractors, developers, regulatory agencies, and the public. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound judgment, strategic thinking, strong communication skills, and the ability to balance technical, operational, financial, regulatory, and community considerations. The ability to maintain a valid driver’s license and good driving record is required.


Salary

The salary range for this position is $93,662 - $140,483 annually plus an excellent fringe benefit package including: paid time off; health, dental and vision insurance; free employee health clinic and coach; life insurance; short-/long-term disability insurance; accident insurance; on-site fitness center; health and wellness programs; post-employment health plan; deferred compensation; and Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS).
