Overview

Northwood Technical College is seeking applications from qualified candidates for a full-time Public Safety Equipment Technician at the New Richmond Campus.

 

The Public Safety Equipment Technician position provides support toward delivery of Emergency Services coursework in EMS, Fire, and Law Enforcement. The technician will have a direct line relationship to the Fire/EMS Specialist in the region and may also take direction from other emergency service managers for special projects or work orders.

  • Ensure that all EMS/Fire/Law equipment and training props used to deliver classes are properly maintained and repaired as directed and/or in accordance with OSHA, NFPA, DOT and Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services requirements.
  • Cleaning, inventorying, stocking, and repairing of equipment. Update electronic equipment database as necessary.
  • On time delivery of equipment and support materials to class locations across the district. Organized planning for return of equipment and materials back to proper storage location or next class site. This will be done utilizing vans and pick-up trucks, sometimes towing large trailers.
  • Assist emergency services instructor in the instructional process for classes assigned and as qualified as determined by managing specialist.
  • Collect/maintain necessary documents for personnel function.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Degree & Experience Required:

  • Associate’s degree (or two years post-secondary education) in related field
  • Two years related work experience

*Equivalent educational/occupational experience may be a high school diploma plus 4 years of relevant experience 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Possess a current CDL driver’s license or obtain one within three months of hire
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite and the ability to effectively apply technology to tasks and projects
  • Ability to contribute to a team environment while maintaining positivity and professionalism
  • Strong customer service skills that focus on creative problem solving
  • Time management skills that apply organization and prioritization demonstrating the ability to multitask and work independently
  • Ability to obtain driver’s license and insurance coverage in accordance with College policy
  • Ability to pass a skills test involving hooking up, pulling, backing up, and unhooking a trailer.

Preferred:

  • Training/Certification in one or more of the following disciplines: Certified Firefighter I or Wisconsin Department of Commerce approved Entry Level Firefighter I; State of Wisconsin licensed EMR/EMT or higher and Nationally Registered EMR/EMT or higher; Corrections or Law Enforcement training and/or applicable licensing/certification. EMS/Fire Instructor I or II.
  • Class-B Commercial Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement
  • Occupational currency with a Fire/EMS organization that is maintained throughout employment
  • Experience connecting and hauling trailers

Salary

FY26 Salary - Grade H - $21.31 / hour
