Prescribed Fire GIS Intern

The Prescribed Fire GIS Intern performs and supports efforts to digitize and map conservation data in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Prescribed Fire GIS Intern will have a focus on prescribed fire records, including decades of historical data. They will scan, digitize, compile, and archive prescribed fire records. They will georeference digitized maps, and populate prescribed fire databases for these historical records. They may produce maps and/or other GIS products and reports, or support other TNC Wisconsin GIS-related efforts.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

-Works under close or infrequent supervision.

-Work, collaborate, and communicate effectively with colleagues, providing and obtaining needed information.

-Duties are performed according to instructions or established practices; supervisor will resolve any problems or questions.

-Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain.

-Manage, maintain, and populate databases using computer spatial or tabular based management skills.

-This position will require attendance at an intern cohort orientation in Madison, Wisconsin on June 4, 2026.

-May attend an overnight TNC Wisconsin All Staff retreat scheduled for June 15 – 18, 2026.            

The position is based in Madison, Wisconsin. This is a full-time, 12-week summer internship position with an approximate start date of June 1, 2026. This position is paid $17.00 per hour. Housing is not provided, and transportation to and from the office is the responsibility of the applicant.
