Planetarium Educator
Mentored by our Director of the Dome Theater & Planetarium, the MPM Planetarium Educator is responsible for presenting engaging and astronomically accurate planetarium programs for school groups, members of the museum, and the general public. This position requires the ability to speak to our audiences in a live format, acting as the Master of Ceremonies.
You will be presenting programs for special events, camps, scout groups, overnight programs for children, and programs tailored specifically for adult-only events. You will also conduct after-school programs, lectures, and private events. This is a part-time position averaging about 26 hours per week including both week day and weekend availability.
You must have an interest, enthusiasm, and desire to both learn and share your knowledge of astronomy, and enjoy public speaking!
Qualifications
- Must demonstrate knowledge of astronomy and the ability to operate computer-based planetarium systems and controls.
- Must meet department standards for professional public speaking, as ascertained by the Director through periodic and regular review of your presentations. (Clear, clean elocution and a good understanding of the English language.)
- Must be able to work well independently and as part of a team
- Must be flexible and able to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Requires a High school diploma with astronomy knowledge; a post secondary education degree with course work in Astronomy is preferred,
- Prior experience working with adults and children preferred.
