LOCATION: Sturgeon Bay
STANDARD HOURS: Fall/Spring semesters 2 days per week Monday – Thursday from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., 8-10 hours per week. Some days throughout Summer as available. Flexibility to switch days with other library staff as needed.
PAY RANGE: $16.36 - $18.67 per hour
*Salaries/Wages for all finalists (internal and external) will be placed within the range based upon education, experiences, current wages, and internal equity.
POSITION SUMMARY
Answer questions and instruct in the use of library resources, circulate/reshelve and inventory materials, complete loan requests, maintain serials collections, provide support for special library projects, market the library through social media, and present individual/group training on computer use, NWTC software systems, and search for source materials on research paper/projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist students, staff and community members with just-in-time help on computers, printers, software packages, audio-visual equipment, research questions, and accessing physical/online resources through multiple channels (chat, text, phone, email, and in-person interactions within the library).
- Maintain the Library circulation desk to include circulating, discharging, and shelving materials and equipment, updating patron information, and providing other library services, ensuring adherence to library service standards.
- Provide answers to general questions regarding campus services/directions. Connect students with Welcome Center and Coaching staff as appropriate. Assist with campus events and projects.
- Instruct patrons on the use of library services and resources, such as the discovery service/catalog, electronic books, online videos, e-journals, article databases, and interlibrary loan services. Provide reference and research assistance through chat, text, phone, email and in the library. Perform individual and group training on library resources and technology use as needed.
- Assist patrons with requesting interlibrary loans, communicate with waiting patrons, and return borrowed materials.
- Market the library to students, employees, and the community through regular posts to college social media accounts. Create and update instructional aids and signs to assist patrons.
- Add new journal issues to the library catalog and route to employees. Perform item catalog changes as needed.
- Maintain order of physical resources and inventory the library collection. Discard older materials per the library’s weeding policy.
- Recommend library material and supply purchases. Communicate new material requests from faculty and students.
- Communicate with technology staff and security to provide customer service and halt disruptive behavior.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- Integrated Library System (ILS) circulation tasks (WorldShare preferred)
- Advanced web searching skills
- Database research skills
- Chat Reference Software
- Microsoft 365 (intermediate to advanced skills)
- Online course systems (Canvas preferred)
- Call numbers (preferably Library of Congress classification)
- Ability to teach others how to use library and college technology
**An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in library science, computer technician, teaching or related degree preferred.
- Minimum two years related library experience preferred.
- Customer service or teaching experience preferred.
