Northwood Technical College is seeking applications from qualified candidates for a part-time/LTE Teaching Assistant for the Marine Repair Technician Program.
The Marine Repair Technician (MRT) Teaching Assistant (LTE) supports faculty in providing a safe, organized, and effective hands-on learning environment. Under the direction of program instructors, the Teaching Assistant monitors student activities in the laboratory and shop, reinforces technical concepts and safety practices, assists with demonstrations and lab activities, and helps maintain shop equipment, tools, inventory, and parts to ensure instructional readiness. The ideal candidate possesses industry experience in marine service and repair, strong communication and organizational skills, and a commitment to student success.
This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position beginning in Fall 2026 and concluding in the Spring 2028 semester. The Teaching Assistant will be scheduled for 6 hours per day between the hours of 8:30 and 3:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday or on Tuesday and Thursday following the student academic calendars.

- Provide assistance to the instructor(s) in instruction for classes assigned, devoting the best professional efforts.
- Assist the instructor in maintaining standards of achievement.
- Assist the instructor in the maintenance of attendance records of students according to policies and procedures as identified by administration. Alert instructor of any suspected or declared student illness.
- Assist the instructor in identifying where help can be provided to students. Assist with training and monitoring tutors. Maintain tutor schedules.
- Keep current with developments and knowledge relating to course content.
- Be familiar with curriculum content of the courses assigned, helping students on an individual basis.
- Work cooperatively with member of other departments and administration, in those areas related to teacher assistant responsibilities.
- Attend such faculty meetings and in-service workshops that may be requested by administration.
- Assist in monitoring student conduct as well as assisting in the enforcement of school policies and procedures.
- Assist instructors with student record keeping, ordering of supplies and materials, providing routine preventative maintenance of equipment, maintain material inventory, and upkeep of physical environment.
- Provide clerical assistance to professional staff member(s).
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Degree & Experience Required:
- Associate’s degree (or two years post-secondary education) in related field or equivalent*
*Equivalent educational/occupational experience may be a high school diploma plus 2 years of relevant experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite and the ability to effectively apply technology to tasks and projects
- Ability to contribute to a team environment while maintaining positivity and professionalism
- Strong customer service skills that focus on creative problem solving
- Time management skills that apply organization and prioritization demonstrating the ability to multitask and work independently
- Ability to obtain driver’s license and insurance coverage in accordance with College policy
Salary
FY27 Salary - Grade G - $19.68 / hour
