Library Technician - Technology Assistance and Instruction

LOCATION: Green Bay

STANDARD HOURS: Monday - Thursday 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, Friday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. Flexibility required to include other evening and/or weekend hours, as necessary.

STARTING PAY RANGE: $22.90 - $24.69 per hour

*Salaries/Wages for all finalists (internal and external) will be placed within the range based upon education, experiences, current wages, and internal equity.

 

POSITION SUMMARY 

Provide computer, reference, and library support to internal/external patrons online, via phone, and within the library. Provide group and individual technology and information literacy instruction. Work closely with other College teams to maintain the lab hardware/systems and a large circulating collection of laptops and audio-visual equipment. Approve equipment applications, circulate materials/equipment, complete computer booking requests,

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Assist students, staff and community members with just-in-time help on computers, printers, software packages, audio-visual equipment, research questions, and accessing physical/online resources through multiple channels (chat, text, phone, email, and in-person interactions within the library and CyberZone).
  • Contact referred students who need basic computer skills to provide early interventions by appointment at the start of each session. Provide individual and group training on library resources and technology use.
  • Maintain the Library desk to include approving equipment applications, circulating, discharging, and shelving materials and equipment, updating patron information, sending notices, updating fines, and providing other library services, ensuring adherence to library service standards. Open or close the library promptly at designated times.
  • Create instructional videos, FAQ web pages, guides, signs, and/or handouts to assist patrons in using Library equipment and technology applications, accessing college resources, and managing student accounts. 
  • Maintain a large collection of laptops and audio-visual equipment and related documentation.  Address hardware and software needs, track reservations, and assist Manager on policy issues. Take money to add to print balances. Recover delinquent laptops, hotspots, and other equipment by texting, calling and emailing.
  • Perform item catalog changes and process new equipment to prepare them for inclusion in library collections.
  • Assist with testing and documenting new or updated systems and applications. Determine equipment malfunctions and perform minor repairs or arrange for repair with other College technicians.
  • Maintain order and inventory the library’s equipment collections monthly.
  • Communicate with technology staff and security to provide customer service, halt disruptive behavior, and disable equipment that has not been returned on time.
  • Provide guidance to part-time staff and student workers as needed to ensure proper completion of library tasks.

Additional Duties as Needed: 

  • Maintain physical collections, send notices to patrons, and market the library through social media.
  • Process interlibrary loans for patrons, keep records of loan transactions, communicate with other libraries and waiting patrons, and answer renewal questions.
  • Add new journal issues to the library catalog and route materials to employees.  Contact publishers for missing issues and perform annual record updates.  Process new physical and online library materials to prepare them for inclusion in library collections.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Associate's Degree in Computer Application Software, computer technician, Library Science or related degree
  • Minimum two years related experience in a computer lab or library environment.
  • Microsoft 365 (intermediate to advanced skills), Integrated Library System (ILS) circulation tasks (WorldShare preferred), online course systems (Canvas preferred), advanced web searching skills, database researching skills, Chat Reference Software, email programs, PC and MAC/Apple Operating systems.
  • Ability to learn software used by various college courses.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software (including diagnosing problems and performing minor repair).
  • Call numbers (preferably Library of Congress classification).
  • Ability to teach others how to use library and college technology.

**An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Customer service or teaching experience preferred.
