Northwood Technical College is seeking applications from qualified candidates for a full-time Dean of Nursing at the Rice Lake Campus.
The Dean of Nursing provides instructional leadership and administration of the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program to ensure student success from admission to program completion and success on the national registry examination. As the Nurse Administrator according to ACEN, the Dean is directly responsible for meeting ACEN and Wisconsin Board of Nursing requirements.
This Academic Affairs position is responsible for program oversight and planning including program compliance and accreditation activities, process improvement efforts for course, program and institutional assessment, program scheduling oversight, and new, expanded and pathways program development; and develops, communicates and monitors program metrics and benchmarks related to enrollment, retention, graduation, and career placement. The Dean of Nursing works collaboratively with all areas of the college to facilitate program and student success. In addition, the Dean of Nursing oversees and monitors program budgets and grant-related projects. Travel to Northwood Tech’s campuses and the Health Education Center (HEC) is required if the HEC is not the home campus.
Additional responsibilities include participation in Academic Affairs-related campus operations and facilities planning, engaging in external relations with college partners and regional community activities, communicating and participating in Academic Affairs initiatives, and actively participating in college activities and initiatives.
The Dean of Nursing supervises and coaches program faculty and may also supervise additional staff and faculty. The Dean works closely with internal and external partners to enhance learning and educational opportunities across the district. The Dean of Nursing reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

- Follow and make improvements to processes for course, program and institutional assessment, program scheduling, and new, expanded, and pathways program development.
- Program policy development and guidance, including but not limited to handbooks, compensation, mentoring, and hiring practices.
- Maintain the program’s compliance with accreditation standards of the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc. (ACEN) and the Wisconsin State Board of Nursing.
- Maintain and advance the ADN curriculum to ensure currency within the college WIDS format.
- Collaborate with faculty to annually update and maintain ADN Program documents, including but not limited to policy manual, student handbook, petition materials, textbook orders, student orientation, bootcamps and tutoring.
- Recruit, hire, onboard, and supervise nursing faculty and staff.
- Regularly evaluate instructional performance of ADN faculty in accordance with the governing organization’s policy/procedures.
- Develop and monitor the program and faculty schedules
- Develop and manage program budget with faculty input
- Develop, communicate, and monitor program metrics and benchmarks related to enrollment, retention, graduation and career placement.
- Serve on college-wide committees as assigned, attend Academic Affairs Leadership Team meetings, and participate on taskforces as needed.
- Participate in campus planning operations and reporting on the development of a campus plan.
- Engage in regional community activities.
- Communicate Academic Affairs initiatives including new programming ideas college- and campus-wide and with other college teams.
- Assist in planning, input, and execution of facility-related activities.
- Participate in WTCS activities, foster relationships within WTCS (i.e. Education Directors), and communicate WTCS priorities.
- Give presentations, provide outreach efforts, and engage with potential community partners, including K-12 connections, Advisory Committee members and business and industry partners.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Degree & Experience Required:
- Master’s degree with a major in nursing (MS or MSN), or a master’s degree in public
- health nursing or nursing education.
- One year supervisory/leadership experience or supervisory/leadership education
- Minimum of two years (4, 000 hours) direct care experience as a practicing nurse
- Two years of experience in nursing education in the last five years or one year experience as an instructor in a nursing education program within the last five years and the graduate degree includes education preparation
- Two years (four semesters) full-time teaching or eight semesters part-time teaching or four years secondary education teaching combined with part-time post-secondary teaching experience.
- Current active license as a Registered Nurse, including licensure in the State of Wisconsin.
