Position: Bilingual HIV Prevention Specialist

Supervised by: Harm Reduction Services Director 

Classification: Full-time (40 hrs./week) non-exempt

Work Location: On-site, OutReach LGBTQ+ Community Center in Madison, WI 

 

Position Summary:

OutReach LGBTQ+ Community Center is seeking a Bilingual HIV Prevention Specialist to engage directly with our queer and trans community members on harm reduction and HIV prevention practices, with a specific focus on outreach to Spanish-speaking communities. The Bilingual HIV Prevention Specialist will be a part of our Harm Reduction Team, working closely with other staff to provide services, supplies, and support to individuals in our community who are at higher risk for HIV. 


Essential Duties:

  • Assist clients with information and referral to local HIV prevention and intervention services. 
  • Participate in safer sex and safer use training and supply distribution as part of the Harm Reduction Team. 
  • Assist with creation, publication, and sharing of bilingual educational resources aimed at increasing awareness of PrEP/PEP and other HIV prevention information and tools. 
  • Network and attend HIV prevention coalition meetings with local and state agencies to help coordinate HIV prevention messaging and outreach efforts across agencies. 
  • Work alongside other OutReach staff to create and implement programming to support the LGBTQ+ community, including organizing special events, facilitating social and support groups, and other duties as needed. 
  • Attend weekly and monthly meetings with OutReach staff as required by supervisors. 
  • Identify opportunities and attend conferences, meetings, or resource fairs to share information and resources about the LGBTQ+ community. 
  • Assist in the planning and day-of coordination of special events and programs organized by OutReach such as the Magic Pride Festival. 
  • Additional duties as required by supervisors. 

 

Qualifications and Requirements:To perform this role well, you should have personal, professional, or lived experience in some or all of the following: 

  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish (required for this position) 
  • HIV prevention, intervention, and care 
  • Outreach, education, peer support, and/or advocacy with Latino/a/e individuals. 
  • Community organizing 
  • Written and verbal communication 
  • Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and others)

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Pay rate: $23 - $25/hour 
  • Eligible for benefits including health, dental, vision, life insurance, and more. 
  • Paid time off including vacation, personal, and sick days in addition to major holidays when OutReach offices are closed.


Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities. 


Travel: Travel is primarily local (within Dane County).


Physical Demand: The physical demands and work environment described here are representative to those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to use hands, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee will also walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch and lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision, distant vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus. 

 

Work Environment: This employee will work in a professional office environment, which requires use of standard office equipment like computers, phones, copiers/printers, and filing cabinets. This employee may also work outside in variable weather conditions as part of community outreach activities and be exposed to a variety of conditions, including light and noise levels, at client sites.
