Primary Objective:
The Assistant Director for Employer and Alumni Relations in the Career Center provides strategic leadership for the on-campus recruiting program at Lawrence University. The on-campus recruiting program includes services for employers to recruit Lawrentians (e.g., career fairs, on-campus interviews, meetups, career treks, etc.) and on-campus and off-campus career exploration programs involving employer and alumni partners. The Assistant Director will identify opportunities to engage Lawrence’s dedicated alumni community in recruiting and other career development activities whenever possible. This role is highly collaborative – the Assistant Director regularly partners with the Assistant Director, Internships, career advisors, and faculty to identify areas of need and strengthen employment and internship opportunities for students in each of Lawrence’s career communities. The Assistant Director is the Handshake early-career job posting approver and works with employers to refine postings for successful approvals. The Assistant Director also assists students with job search and employment related needs, as appropriate.
 
Job Responsibilities:
  • Manage the Lawrence recruiting program including, but not limited to, employer information sessions, interview schedules, meetups, class presentations, tabling, and fairs.
  • Expand and develop job (and internship, as appropriate) opportunities for students through outreach to employers, alumni, and parents.
  • Refer discovered internship opportunities to the Assistant Director, Internships.
  • Participate /develop/collaborate in Career Center campus presentations/workshops, etc., designed to enhance student career readiness.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director, Internships and the Coordinator of Experiential Learning and Community Engagement in expanding and developing internships for students through employer and alumni engagement.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director, Internships and the Coordinator of Experiential Learning and Community Engagement to support funded Lawrence internship programs including identification of employer partners to engage in programs and corresponding administrative tasks, if needed.
  • Actively represent the Career Center and Lawrence University to prospective employers and alumni. Deliver the highest level of customer service for employers.
  • Consult with Career Center colleagues to share industry trends, employer and alumni feedback, employer information, and identify potential preferred recruiting partners for each Career Community.
  • Monitor and ensure employer profiles and postings are created, updated, and approved in Handshake, the office recruiting management system.
  • Serve as the primary job postings approver for early-career job postings in Handshake. Work with employers to refine postings to so they can be approved. Explain to employers why job posting denials occur.
  • Supervises at least one of the student job approval assistants and collaborates with the Assistant Director, Internships in the general support of these positions.
  • Assist with internship posting approvals when needed.
  • Manage and market to appropriate constituents the use of CareerShift. Serve as the department’s representative with CareerShift representatives.  
  • Help manage an annual communications plan for the office that utilizes various mediums (e.g., email, social media, faculty outreach, etc.). Help contribute to targeted communications efforts for employer/alumni events or opportunities as needed.
  • Advise employers on comprehensive marketing strategies, appropriateness of employer expectations, inclusion of personnel representative, on-site recruiting process, job description, etc. Consult on marketing and communication strategies to be used by employers based on knowledge of student constituents and campus calendar. Follows-up to clarify and resolve problems as needed.
  • Maintain records and report on the statistics of recruiting activities and employer contacts.
  • Manage any external facing webpages on Career Center website to communicate resources and policies to external stakeholders. 
  • Serve as a collaborative colleague by leading and/or participating in various office- or department-wide projects and/or events as needed.
  • While not a primary responsibility of this position, as assigned or requested, meet with students/alumni and assist with job search strategies, résumés and applications, and (as appropriate) connections with employers and alumni.
Required Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred. 
  2. 2+ years’ experience of relevant program management, strategic planning, and/or public relations experience; or the equivalent.
  3. Ability to travel in-state and out-of-state to attend career fairs, conferences, networking events, and student career exploration trips, and employer site visits.
  4. This is both a student-facing and employer/alumni-facing position and requires an on-site presence.
  5. Ability to work some evenings and/or weekends, as needed.

  6. The flexibility, creativity, and energy needed to be able to adapt and operate in an ever-changing environment.
  7. An ability to navigate and use technology to track engagement and promote opportunities for students.
  8. Resourcefulness and an interest in researching industries, organizations, people, and business trends.
  9. A commitment to the values and mission of a residential liberal arts college.
