Dear Friends and Colleagues,

You’re invited to free screenings and discussion of the PBS program “Being Mortal” at one of our locations:

   ~Tuesday, June 21st from 6-8 pm at our 12401 W. National Avenue (New Berlin) location;

   ~Tuesday, August 23rd from 6-8 pm at our 21600 W. Capitol Drive (Brookfield) location; or

   ~Saturday, October 15th from 1-3 pm at our 7001 W. Brown Deer Road (Milwaukee) location.

You will be part of a national dialog taking place in our community—and at 90 locations across the nation—that asks “Have you and your family had the tough conversations and planned ahead?”

“Being Mortal” delves into the hopes of patients and families facing terminal illness.  The film investigates the practice of caring for the dying and explores the relationships between patients and their doctors.  It follows a surgeon, Dr. Atul Gawande, as he shares stories from the people and families he encounters.  When Dr. Gawande’s own father gets cancer, his search for answers about how to best care for the dying becomes a personal quest.

After the screening, you are invited to participate in a guided conversation on how to take concrete steps to identify and communicate wishes about end-of-life goals and preferences.

See this moving documentary, join the conversation, and explore what matters to you.  This is a rare opportunity for medical professionals, social workers, clergy, students and others to benefit from the beginnings of this national dialogue.  Refreshments will be provided, and all are welcome.  Seating is limited, so please RSVP to 414 464-4640 indicating date and location.  We hope to see you there!

The free screenings are made possible by a grant from The John and Wauna Harman Foundation in partnership with the Hospice Foundation of America, and is offered in partnership with ProHealth Careand South East Wisconsin Grief Network (SEWGN).
