Please join us for the premiere of “New Horizons”, an exhibition of original paintings by BEN BRUMMERHOP Opening: Friday, August 3, 10am-9pm Artist Reception: Saturday, Aug 4, 6-9pm Ben’s path to recovery from meth addiction began 12 years ago in Mineral Point. He returns to Longbranch Gallery in Mineral Point owned by life partners Sandra Scott & Judith Sutcliffe, for an exhibit of his latest paintings and to celebrate the town that helped him heal. Ben grew up in Florida and started using drugs at the age of 13. It was only after moving to Mineral Point that he found his path to recovery and his real artistic voice. While living in Mineral Point, Ben put himself through college with honors while working at Longbranch Gallery and shed an addiction that had plagued him for more than half of his life. Ben taught numerous art classes to young people at the Shake Rag Center for the Arts in Mineral Point and has been a silent champion of underprivileged young people who just need a helping hand with the little things we often take for granted in life. Since that time, Ben has risen to a top executive level in a major Madison based corporation and married his best friend, Clay. They now reside in San Diego, CA. Ben is a serious cyclist and often rides in HIV/AIDS fundraisers. He is an avid art collector and a self-taught artist. In 2010, he had a national exhibition about his recovery called “A New Use for Syringes”. A part of the exhibition included painting with people who were currently in recovery to show them they could create art using syringes filled with paint. Ben’s paintings are a true expression of his journey in life and are often favored by galleries and corporate buyers. He returns to Longbranch Gallery in Mineral Point for a solo exhibition during Arts on Point Gallery Weekend, August 3-5.
